Wack Away, Lord!

My friend, Ordinary Christian, commented in my previous blog that she believed God sent her someone to be the 'hammer' on her dense ways. This really struck me as a profound thought. So often, when we are faced with difficult people in our lives, we ask God to fix them, (often in a very well intended prayer about breaking through their walls, and helping them see, and please teach them Lord) and we don't really stop to think that perhaps this person's bad attitude or that person's mean spirit, that bad driver, this grumpy sales clerk, that unloving spouse, this difficult child is here to 'hammer' home God's change in our own lives. That's a very freeing thought. It removes the stress of being angry or disappointed in others and instead helps us to focus on areas in our lives that we can change to create better relationships with each other and with our Creator. And so, I just want to say, publicly, "thank you Lord for sending that big hammer into my life named Joe. Please, work your change in me. Refine my life. Hammer out the kinks and the stubborn creases." How I respond to my husband is all about my stuff. It's not about his stuff. That's between him and the Lord. And so, tonight, I bend willingly over the anvil, and even though I feel that I am already beaten flat, I will trust that God still sees that there is work to be done. Wack away Lord! And please, hold my hand while you're doing it.

wow that is deep. I never thought about it that way, I guess God really needs to change me, because I deal with some situations that truly are hammering the life out of me. So now I can look at all of it in a new perspective, thanks to you and ordinary Christian!

Hi Becky,

I love, hate the verse where Paul says, "Through much tribulation, we will enter the kingdom of God."

It is very easy to despise the 'training of the Father' in our lives.
From the time we were rebirthed it was instilled deep within our hearts, the cry, that I might Know Him!!
The goodness of the Lord leads us to repentance.
In saying that I am reminded of what is there for all to see in what Job said when the 'hammer fell,' "That which I have feared has come upon me."
In other words, when push comes to shove, when insults seem to be added to injurys, the liar in our flesh voices his thoughts..'you really can not depend upon Him for any help/comfort.'
Believing these lies can launch us into either walking away from the Lord, or simply going through the motions of whatever it means to be a 'Christian.'
Only our Father knows of that which we have imbibed, that has produced within us an identity that needs tearing down.
This is never done without great pain, hurt, confusion, and a huge sense of lost ness.
But this is all of Him, he is training us.
We have to learn what it means to 'fight the good fight of trust/faith.'
I see this unfolding within you, and I know it causes the heart of the Father to rejoice!!
His intension is to make His sons/daughters, 'eye-witnesses' of who He IS! Not merely those who like Job had heard of him by the hearing of the ears, but.."Blessed are the pure in heart, for they Shall See God."

Richard

Oh dear, I don't think God, my Abba chooses to send people who say/do things to hurt me in order to mould me. Just as a loving father will not send others to bully his child to teach him a lesson. People have free choice. But in this I have comfort, that He makes all things (all, good and bad) work out for good for those who love Him. His unconditional love is the anchor I cling on.

Hi Becky,

Thanks for your comments on my blog.
It really isn't complicated doing a live voice chat.
I use Yahoo Messenger http://messenger.yahoo.com/ as well as a program called Skype, http://www.skype.com/download/ both are free downloads with no spy ware.
All you need is a microphone, speakers, and after you download either the Yahoo Messenger or the Skype program you are pretty much good to go.
In either sending instant messages or doing a live voice chat, there are instructions on both programs to guide you step by step.
If you don't have a microphone, a very simple but effective one can be purchased for a few dollars.
If you have a PC manual for your PC, it should have instructions showing you where your mic hookup is.
I hope this is helpful.

In Him we Live,
Richard

When we pray for God to "fix" so and so, or we start praying for them for even blessings, etc. to happen in their lives, all too often we find that it is us who changes...our thought and attitudes toward the other person. Maybe it's not the other person who needs "fixing", but us. Great post!

life, sometimes, can be so complicated that no matter what we do or what other people try to do, it doesn't really fix anything, but God can. i find my comfort in knowing that God won't allow me to go through a test if He knows that i can't handle it. God knows the pain i'm experiencing. He knows my desires. i hope you find comfort in that too. becky, i know that God has plans for your life. and i know that there's light at the end of this tunnel. i'm praying for you, becky.

God bless you always.

Becky,

I have prevously expressed my admiration for the way you are seeking the Lord's guidance while you are riding the emotional roller coaster.

Thoughts, prayers and tons of compassion are with you daily.

On a more positive note, how is that lovely boy of yours? He would be running the legs off you now and getting into all sorts of mischief. Can he still make your heart sing with a smile?

Great thought, Becky! I am blessed and you are right it is tremendously freeing when we think of our lessons instead of revenge.

I pray you did well on your test today.

Funny thing, I coveted an A on my Research Methods Midterm exam but I made an 88, then the prof emailed us and said one question had no correct answer so he was giving us all 2 points. I got my A. Amazing!!
